Safety and HSE signs
Signage that is not a matter of taste. Shape, colour and pictogram are prescribed; the only freedom is where they stand and whether they are seen.
Safety signage is the one part of a signage scheme where appearance is not up for discussion. Pictograms, colours and shapes follow ISO 7010, so they are not redrawn for each building — and that is exactly the common mistake: a sign drawn "in the spirit of the brand" stops being a safety sign, and an inspection treats it that way.
What is the designer's job is placement. A sign behind an open door, above the field of view or in a spot the lighting misses formally exists but does not work. So we set the layout by walking the building with the escape plan in hand, recording what is visible from floor level and what only exists on the drawing.

Frequently asked questions
