Evacuation plans
A mandatory element of every public space, and the one sign that must be understood by a person seeing it for the first time, in a situation that leaves no time to study it.
An evacuation plan is usually the only sign in a building nobody looks at until they need it. It therefore has to work without an introduction: the reader's position must be found in a second, the route to the exit must be the only strong line on the drawing, and equipment markings must sit where they are expected rather than wherever there was room.
We produce plans as part of the signage system, not as a separate document taped to a wall. The map uses the same floor plan, the same room names and the same orientation as the building's maps and directional signs, so it reads without reorientation. Frame, material and mounting height follow the other signs in the same corridor.
