Braille and accessible signs
Signage that works when it cannot be seen. Tactile lettering and Braille at a height the hand finds without searching.
An accessible sign has three requirements that do not show on a drawing: a height the hand finds, a tactile spacing a finger can tell apart, and contrast sufficient for low vision. All three are easily missed when a plate is designed as graphics and checked only as an image on screen.
So we make a sample before the run and check it on site — by touch, from the side people approach from, and under the lighting the building actually has. On stairs, a floor marking at the end of the handrail solves more than a board on the wall, because the hand is already there.
